🌩️ Severe Storms Slam Northeast Ohio, Leaving Thousands Without Power

Severe Storms Leave Widespread Damage Across Northeast Ohio

MENTOR, Ohio — Northeast Ohio communities continued cleanup efforts Monday after powerful storms moved through the region Sunday, causing damage, road closures, and widespread power outages.

In Cleveland, firefighters responded to several weather-related emergencies, including a damaged gas line on West 129th Street. On East 47th Street, a tree and a live electrical wire crashed into a home, causing major damage and displacing two adults and two children. The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.

At Geneva-on-the-Lake, strong winds toppled the permanent Ferris wheel at Old Firehouse Winery. The attraction had been closed before the storms arrived, and no injuries were reported.

Garfield Heights officials reported numerous downed trees and power lines, with some incidents resulting in fires. Residents were urged to avoid fallen wires and report hazards to emergency services.

In Mentor, a fallen tree blocked Cedarwood Road, adding to the growing list of storm-related hazards reported throughout Northeast Ohio.

FirstEnergy reported yesterday evening that more than 106,000 Ohio customers lost power as the storms swept through Northeast Ohio, with restoration efforts continuing.

As conditions improved, communities across Northeast Ohio began assessing the damage and working to restore normal operations.

🚮 Recreation Growth Creating New Maintenance Challenges

MENTOR, Ohio — Public comments in a recent council meeting highlighted an issue facing Mentor's growing recreation system: increased usage is putting pressure on existing infrastructure.

One resident raised concerns about overflowing trash bins near the pickleball courts, suggesting litter may stem more from limited maintenance capacity than careless visitors.

The resident also questioned lighting schedules near the basketball courts during Mentor Rocks concerts and asked when additional parking lot lighting would become operational.

While these concerns may seem minor, they reflect a broader challenge many communities face: popular public amenities require ongoing investment in maintenance and operations, not just initial construction. Council noted that some planned lighting improvements depend on recently approved utility easements and electrical upgrades already in progress.

Most homeowners spend time wondering whether they can afford to move.

Far fewer stop to ask a different question:

Can I afford not to?

For many families in Mentor, staying in the same home feels like the obvious choice. The mortgage may be manageable. The neighborhood feels familiar. The memories run deep.

But over time, the true costs of staying put can quietly change.

A home that once fit perfectly may begin demanding more than it gives back.

Maybe you're heating and cooling rooms that rarely get used. Maybe yard work and home maintenance that once took an afternoon now consume entire weekends. Maybe stairs have become more challenging than they used to be.

Sometimes the costs aren't financial at all.

Maybe staying means postponing travel because there's always another project waiting at home. Maybe it means spending time maintaining a house instead of enjoying retirement, grandchildren, hobbies, or simply having more freedom.

Of course, moving isn't automatically the answer.

For many Mentor homeowners, staying exactly where they are remains the right decision. Strong friendships, community ties, and a home filled with memories carry tremendous value.

The important thing isn't choosing one path over another.

It's making sure the choice is intentional.

Because the best housing decisions aren't based solely on market conditions.

They're based on whether your home still supports the life you're trying to build.

And sometimes, asking that question is the first step toward creating a future that fits you even better than the past.

👉🏻 Our full website article explores the financial, physical, emotional, and opportunity costs of staying put—and why more Mentor homeowners are taking a fresh look at whether their current home still fits the life they want moving forward.

⚾ Guardians Face Major Test After José Ramírez Suffers Wrist Fracture

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Guardians' injury concerns deepened over the weekend as star third baseman José Ramírez suffered a left hamate fracture during Saturday's 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Ramírez is expected to miss five to seven weeks, though the team is still determining whether surgery will be required. The 33-year-old was batting .239 with 10 home runs, 18 doubles and 24 stolen bases in 72 games this season.

Cleveland placed Ramírez on the 10-day injured list and activated Gabriel Arias from the 60-day injured list to help fill the opening at third base.

The Guardians also lost Angel Martínez and Chase DeLauter to injuries during Saturday's game. Martínez, sidelined by a left foot contusion, could return during Cleveland's upcoming series against Milwaukee. DeLauter remains under evaluation after suffering a right rib cage contusion.

Outfielder George Valera was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.

Meanwhile, left-hander Erik Sabrowski is expected to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake County as he recovers from left elbow inflammation.
