💥 Driver Seriously Injured in Rollover Crash on SR 2 Near Mentor
A driver suffered serious injuries after a single-vehicle rollover crash on westbound State Route 2 near Mentor's western city limits Thursday morning.
According to the Mentor Police Department, officers and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 7 a.m. on June 25.
Police said a preliminary investigation found that the driver of a silver 2008 Ford G6 lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and rolled over. The driver was the only person inside the car.
The driver was transported to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center with serious injuries. Authorities have not released the driver's identity or provided an update on their condition.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Westbound State Route 2 was temporarily closed while the Mentor Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit documented the scene. The closure caused delays for motorists during the morning commute before the highway reopened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and police have not said what led the driver to lose control.

Looking for an easy way to enjoy a summer evening? Mentor's popular Tunes at the Lagoons concert series continues tonight, Friday, June 26, with Treble in CLE performing from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve & Marina.
Now in its fifth season, the free concert series has become a summertime tradition, bringing local bands to one of Mentor's most scenic outdoor venues.

The summer lineup continues every other Friday through Aug. 21 with Abbey Rodeo, Shadow of Doubt (Tom Petty tribute), One (U2 tribute) and Pieces of Eight.
Worth Knowing: The marina offers one of the few places in Mentor where you can enjoy live music while overlooking the water—a combination that has helped make Tunes at the Lagoons one of the city's favorite summer traditions.

🗑️ No Delay for Mentor Trash Collection During Independence Day Week

If you're planning your holiday week, you won't need to adjust your trash and recycling schedule.
The City of Mentor announced that Waste Management will maintain its regular collection schedule during the week leading up to Independence Day. Residents with Monday through Friday pickups should place their carts at the curb on their normal collection day.
The only service interruption will be on Saturday, July 4, when Waste Management will be closed.
To avoid missing your pickup, the city reminds residents to have all trash and recycling materials at the curb before 7 a.m. on collection day.
Holiday weeks often bring schedule changes, making this year's announcement a helpful reminder for residents who may otherwise expect a delay.

⚾ Captains Shut Out Fort Wayne Behind Braylon Doughty's Strong Start
The Lake County Captains opened their weekend series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps with an impressive 8-0 victory Thursday night, scoring all eight runs over the second and third innings.
Leadoff hitter Tommy Hawke led the offensive attack with four hits, including a two-run double in the second inning that gave Lake County an early 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Jace LaViolette extended the advantage with a three-run home run, his 12th of the season, making it 5-0.
The Captains added three more runs in the third when Esteban González launched a three-run homer, his ninth of the year, stretching the lead to 8-0.
Braylon Doughty turned in one of his best outings of the season, allowing just two hits over six scoreless innings while striking out seven to improve to 3-3. The Lake County bullpen preserved the shutout by retiring Fort Wayne the rest of the way.
With the win, the Captains improved to 2-3 in the Midwest League second half. The series continues Friday night as Lake County looks to build on Thursday's dominant performance.

🏈 Browns LB Carson Schwesinger Earns Spot on NFL Top 100
Carson Schwesinger continues to collect honors after an impressive rookie campaign with the Cleveland Browns.
The second-year linebacker was ranked No. 93 in the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026, an annual list voted on by fellow NFL players. The recognition comes just months after Schwesinger was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year following a standout 2025 season.
A second-round draft pick out of UCLA, Schwesinger quickly became one of Cleveland's defensive leaders. He finished his rookie season with 146 tackles — the most by a Browns rookie since the franchise returned in 1999 — along with 11 tackles for loss and two interceptions.
According to the NFL, Schwesinger also recorded 57 run stops, ranking eighth in the league and first among all rookies.
He's the first Browns player to appear on this year's Top 100 list. More Cleveland players could still be revealed as the rankings continue throughout the summer.
With former Browns star Myles Garrett now playing for the Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland's defense enters a new era. Schwesinger is expected to become one of the franchise's foundational defensive leaders alongside several younger players as the Browns continue building their roster.
