🚨 Nationwide Shoplifting Spree Ends with Arrest in Mentor
Nationwide Theft Suspect Caught at Mentor Ulta Beauty Store
A woman accused of orchestrating a coast-to-coast shoplifting spree was arrested Thursday at the Ulta Beauty store on Mentor Avenue, according to Mentor police.
Authorities identified the suspect as Paula Andrea Lopez-Correa, who is believed to have stolen over $81,000 in merchandise from Ulta Beauty locations nationwide. Her arrest followed a tip from store staff who recognized her as a “known shoplifter.”
The apprehension comes just months after a similar theft occurred at the Ulta store in Mayfield Heights, where surveillance footage reportedly captured Lopez-Correa stealing more than $2,200 worth of beauty products.
In response to that incident, police distributed her photo to Ulta locations across the country, warning employees to stay alert. The nationwide alert helped lead to her capture in Mentor.
Police confirm Lopez-Correa has active warrants in multiple states tied to similar retail thefts. She is scheduled to appear in court next week.

📰 Mentor Planning Commission Seeks Clearer Signage Before Car Wash Approval
Mentor Tables Clean Express Car Wash Plan Over Traffic Concerns
The Mentor Planning Commission has tabled a revised site plan for a proposed Clean Express Car Wash at 9361 Mentor Avenue, requesting additional revisions to address traffic flow and signage.
At the July 24 meeting, representatives presented an updated layout that reorients the building, shifts traffic northward, and includes emergency escape lanes with cones and signage. Nearby property owners Walmart and Speedway approved amended easements limiting southern access while preserving emergency routes.
City officials raised concerns about exit confusion, off-site traffic impacts, and the need for clear directional signage. Suggestions included adding stop signs and modifying curb designs to discourage unsafe turns.
Though the design is intended to handle peak volumes of 39 cars per hour, commissioners noted potential confusion for unfamiliar drivers navigating surrounding roads.
The plan will return August 14 after Clean Express provides detailed signage updates and works with city staff on final adjustments.

⚾ Henderson's Late RBI Lifts Orioles Past Guardians, 4-3
The Baltimore Orioles narrowly avoided a four-game sweep on Thursday, defeating the Cleveland Guardians 4-3 thanks to Gunnar Henderson’s go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning. Henderson drove in Alex Jackson after his one-out double, breaking a 3-3 tie and giving Baltimore its second win in nine games.
Charlie Morton turned in one of his best outings of the season, pitching 6 2/3 innings and striking out seven while allowing three runs over 107 pitches. Gregory Soto recorded a clean ninth inning for his first save, filling in for injured closer Félix Bautista.
Baltimore took an early 3-0 lead in the first, sparked by Ramón Laureano’s two-run homer and an RBI double from Ramón Urías. Cleveland answered with two solo home runs from Steven Kwan—his first career multi-homer game—and a sacrifice fly by Nolan Jones to tie it in the sixth.
After Jackson’s double, Cleveland pulled starter Logan Allen, who has now lost five of his last six starts. Reliever Erik Sabrowski walked Jordan Westburg before surrendering the game-winning single to Henderson.
Despite the loss, the Guardians finished a strong homestand, winning five of seven games after previously losing 10 straight.

⚾ Captains Cruise Past Lugnuts with Balanced Attack, 8-2
The Lake County Captains delivered a dominant performance Thursday night, overpowering the Lansing Lugnuts with an 8-2 victory at home. The win was anchored by a strong start from pitcher Josh Hartle, who improved to 7-2 on the season with a 2.95 ERA. Hartle worked five efficient innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while keeping Lansing off the board.
Veteran Tyler Naquin, formerly an outfielder with the Cleveland Guardians, made an appearance out of the bullpen, throwing two scoreless innings to close out the game. Naquin is working at becoming a pitcher. Naquin allowed only a single walk and kept Lansing from staging any late-game comeback.
Lake County's offense came alive early, beginning in the second inning with Esteban González driving in a run on a triple, later scoring on a sacrifice fly. Sacrifice plays continued to pay off as the Captains extended their lead to 3-0 by the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Lake County broke the game open. Nick Mitchell's RBI single and a double by Ralphy Velazquez pushed the lead to five. Although Lansing briefly responded with a two-run homer by Jared Dickey in the sixth, it wasn't enough to shift momentum.
The Captains answered back with additional sacrifice fly and a two-run double by Jose Devers in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, sealing the eight-run total. The offensive outburst and reliable pitching helped Lake County maintain control throughout the night, marking another solid win in their season campaign.
